Dr Asma Kazi (Khalife) is a highly accomplished General, Laparoscopic, Breast, and Anorectal Surgeon with over a decade of extensive clinical and academic experience. She currently holds the position of Assistant Professor in the Department of General Surgery at B.Y.L. Nair Hospital & T.N. Medical College, Mumbai — one of the city’s busiest tertiary care teaching hospitals. In addition to her academic role, she practices as a Consultant Surgeon at several leading hospitals including Wockhardt, Masina, Apollo, Jain, and Saboo Siddique Hospital.
After completing her MBBS from Dr D.Y. Patil Medical College, Pune in 2007, Dr Kazi pursued her DNB in General Surgery at Jehangir Hospital, Pune — a multidisciplinary center known for high-volume surgical training. She further enhanced her expertise through specialized fellowships in Minimal Access Surgery (FMAS), Gastrointestinal Endo Surgery (FIAGES), and Anorectal Surgery under the guidance of eminent surgeons, particularly during her fellowship at Zen Hospital, Mumbai.
Dr Kazi’s surgical expertise spans a broad spectrum of procedures including advanced laparoscopic surgeries like hernia repairs, fundoplication, colectomy, and rectopexy, as well as open surgeries such as mastectomy and thyroidectomy.
She has a special interest in colorectal and anorectal conditions and is proficient in performing LASER procedures for complex fistulas, fissures, and haemorrhoids. She also routinely handles emergency surgeries including trauma, gastrointestinal perforations, and abdominal injuries.
In addition to her clinical work, Dr Kazi is deeply involved in medical education and has played an active role in teaching undergraduate (MBBS, BDS, Physiotherapy, Nursing) and postgraduate students. She has mentored postgraduate students and contributed significantly to academic forums, clinical workshops, and training programs.
Her research credentials include more than 14 publications in indexed national and international journals, and she has been part of major clinical trials, including international studies on surgical nutrition and phlebitis prevention. She has also authored a chapter on “Biliary Diseases in Pregnancy” in the textbook *Complicated Cases in Medical Disorders in Pregnancy*.
Dr Kazi is a frequent speaker at surgical conferences and has presented at events such as the Anorectal Masterclass at Zen Hospital and FMAS skill courses. She has also moderated scientific sessions at conferences like ASICON and Laparosurg. In recognition of her academic contributions, she was awarded the 2nd prize for Best Paper at MASICON 2024.
